Owner and Principal Consultant
Dr. Johnstone began his aeronautics and space career while serving in the United States Air Force as a crew member and performing combat service during the Viet Nam war.
Subsequent to his military service, he joined McDonnell Douglas in 1978 as an avionics engineer working in the advanced military avionics group.
Throughout his career, he has increasingly occupied positions of greater responsibility and leadership that expand many successful large contracts, including the C-17 and advance Tanker Cargo Aircraft, where he pioneered the design of the remote refueling operator’s station.
One of the highlights of his aeronautical career has been the involvement in the development of the U.S. Presidential Airplane known as Air Force One, where he functioned as deputy program manager. He is one of the original conceivers of the modification business at Boeing, which kicked off in the early 1990s and has grown to become a viable, visible and necessary part of The Boeing Company’s Commercial Airplane Services. Until his retirement from the Boeing Company in January 2017, he served as senior project manager in this organization, managing multi-million dollar contracts for modernization and modification services for in-service aircraft.
